Manual Medicine // Michigan State University ONMM Sabbatical

To My Patients,

I have some excellent news to share with you! I was accepted to a Faculty position at Michigan State University as an Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) Resident.

With the skills that I learn in the program, I will have the opportunity to offer Detroit-area patients treatment that is not generally accessible to them now for pain and other musculoskeletal dysfunctions. ONMM is a unique, Osteopathic manual medicine treatment that helps patients in a natural, non-pharmaceutical way with lots of common problems like back pain, chronic headaches, joint pain, and TMJ.

It has become clear over the last few weeks that I am not able to concentrate properly on my training and teaching while being the sole provider at Medicina Urbana. The program in East Lansing will go until the Summer of 2023.

Fortunately, Acadian Health Clinics recently opened a location on Springwells Street just a few blocks from our current location and Medicina Urbana has been welcomed as a contractor there! This will allow Medicina Urbana to support Acadian’s care of patients in Southwest Detroit given its years of experience in the neighborhood. Likewise, we are excited to connect our 500+ patients with access to medical care through the new clinic.

Scarlett Idema, MSN FNP, is one of the wonderful providers at the location. She is trained in functional medicine, with a focus on chronic disease, whole body wellness and preventative care. Originally, she is from Costa Rica and speaks fluent Spanish.

Please contact Medicina Urbana at 313-281-1362 for your next appointment. We will coordinate an appointment for you with me or a qualified medical provider at Acadian. We are happy to help you get the medical care that you need!

Best,

Dr. Mark R. Beard
